A modern soul-jazz group intent on creating new musical perspectives merging live musicians and modern production techniques to make visceral and lasting music.
This
sounds like an unusual approach to music, one might comment. It is, but
the sound has been forged by the unusual character and experience of the
principal members.
The
group Abstract Truth beginnings were at the Copacabana Club in New York
City where the leader and founder of the group, Dana Vlcek,
hosted a weekly
live jam session with DJ Swingsett. From there the group of musicians
played on a weekly basis at Giant Step,
and performed at many of the current
live venues in New York including The Knitting Factory, SOB's, Wetlands,
the Cooler, and Nells.
The addition of vocalist Monique Bingham during
their first recording sessions completed the group's sound.
Abstract
Truth released it?s debut EP "Get Another Plan" in the summer of
1996 on Francois Kevorkian's Streetwave music.
The title track was licensed to Mercury UK's Talkin Loud label shortly
thereafter, and became a club anthem in the UK during the summer.
The
song "Like Water" has been released as part of the " Trippin on Rhythms"
compilation which includes the Brand New Heavies, Roy Ayers and Ronny
Jordan.
The follow-up single "A Thing" was released on March 5th of this year on Streetwave, and has been receivingglowing reviews and is already receiving commercial radio rotation across the nation.
The
band was sighted as one of the 100 things to watch in 1998 by URB magazine...
don't let them out of your sight!!
